''Earnest'' - AS Main Media Task
TREATMENT
The film opens on the two main characters, Jay and Ali, getting dressed. Jay prepares himself in his bedroom, tying his shoes etc - Ali is doing his hair in a bathroom.
The two main characters meet up in town, infront of City Hall where Jay is already sitting on a bench, waiting for Alistair, who casually approaches him. The two boys relationship is very quickly established as them being close friends as Jay questions if Alistair spent so long getting ready and that's why he was late.
The two have a short establishing conversation of how their lives have been going, which reiterates the reason that they have created the persona of 'Oscar'. Ali spots that Jay is currently on a 'Yellow' profile under another name, and Alistair assumes identity theft and starts wrestling with Jay on the bench to try and seize his phone from him. Alistair discovers that his friend has been catfishing someone, and so Jay explains that it is because of his strict upbringing that he feels the need for relief.
Jay states that he has been messaging Ali's cousin, Gemma, under this name, and begins telling, much to Alistair's dismay, all about her. Alistair states that he thinks that what Jay is doing is a good idea, and says that he too has been wanting to message a girl he has been wanting to talk to but cannot due to his strict parents. Jay agrees with him, but is unaware that Alistair is currently making the profile as he is talking to him. Alistair suddenly holds up his phone to show Jay the profile he made... Under the same name as Jay's! Jay is outraged and questions why his friend used the same name, to which Alistair replies that he 'likes the name Oscar' - and how it reminds him of a famous persona by the same name (A nod to the author of the original text, Oscar Wilde), and how this famous persona is Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street.
As this conversation occurs Alistair is messaging Chelsea, Jay's cousin. A message comes through to each of their phone's from their love interest at the same time, and it ends.
